Does this tool cover sharps and red-bag medical waste?

No. Stampede stocks no sharps containers and no regulated medical waste packaging, so the calculator does not size them. The 6-mil bags it recommends are containment only. Regulated medical waste must be packaged and transported by a licensed medical-waste hauler under applicable state and federal rules.

What triggers the higher PPE tier?

An unattended death, a hoarding and gross filth job, or contamination that has absorbed into porous materials. Any one of those raises the plan to the gross-contamination tier: a Tychem barrier coverall instead of microporous, 11-mil nitrile instead of 6-mil, a full-face respirator instead of half-face, and an on-site decontamination shower. One trigger drives all four, so the PPE recommendation is always internally consistent.

Hydroxyl or ozone for decomposition odor?

Hydroxyl generators are safe to run in occupied spaces, so they are the default when the structure is occupied. Ozone is faster but must never run around people, pets, or plants, so this tool offers it only for a vacant structure and reminds you to ventilate before re-entry.

Does buying this PPE make me OSHA compliant?

No. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1030 requires a written exposure control plan, an offered hepatitis B vaccination, and documented training. Equipment is necessary but not sufficient. This tool sizes equipment; it does not build your compliance program.

How this estimate works

This tool is a planning estimate built on the IICRC S540 trauma and crime scene method, with respiratory protection under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 and exposure control under 29 CFR 1910.1030. Incident type drives chemistry, contamination depth drives absorbents and sealing, and occupancy branches the odor equipment. A single gross-contamination trigger raises the coverall, glove, respirator, and decontamination lines together. Stampede is a distributor, not a restoration contractor. The restoration contractor makes the final determination.

Two limits this tool will not paper over.
