What remediation level does my job fall under?

The Level I to IV tiers come from EPA and New York City DOH guidance and are keyed to the affected material area: 10 sq ft or less is Level I, 10 to 30 is Level II, 30 to 100 is Level III, and over 100 sq ft is Level IV. The level drives containment and respiratory protection. ANSI/IICRC S520 does not define square-foot levels; it defines Conditions 1, 2, and 3.

When do I actually need negative pressure?

Starting at Level III. EPA and NYC DOH guidance call for a poly cover and seal at Level II but do not require a negative-pressure enclosure until Level III, so this tool does not size a negative-air machine below that. Sizing one for a 20 sq ft job would over-specify the plan against the very guidance it cites.

What is Condition 1 and why does the calculator recommend nothing?

Condition 1 is a normal fungal ecology, the baseline that a completed remediation returns a structure to. It does not call for containment, antimicrobial, or encapsulation, so the tool tells you that instead of generating a product list. If there is visible growth or settled spore contamination, that is Condition 3 or 2 and the plan sizes accordingly.

Why does this tool not size dehumidifiers?

S520 requires correcting the moisture source, but drying load is a different calculation driven by water Category and Class. Rather than give you a weaker second answer, this tool links to the water-damage drying calculator, which does that math properly.

This tool reads two axes. The affected material area sets the remediation level, and the IICRC S520 Condition sets the chemistry. Two standards are in play and this page keeps them separate: ANSI/IICRC S520 defines Conditions 1, 2, and 3 and does not prescribe square-foot levels, while the Level I to IV tiers come from EPA and NYC DOH guidance. Negative pressure is a Level III and above control, so the tool will not size a negative-air machine for a smaller job. Actual counts and chemistry depend on assessment, substrate, and the certified remediator’s evaluation. Stampede is a distributor, not a remediation contractor.
